2020 DAAD Postgraduate Positions Details

Applications are now open for 2020 DAAD Postgraduate Positions for Developing Countries. These yearly opportunities are ongoing to enable developing country students to pursue a postgraduate degree program at German institutions of Higher education.


German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) with its development-based postgraduate study programs is designed to fund the training of professionals of new industrial countries.

Formed in Heidelberg in 1925 wholly on the initiative of students, DAAD has since become one of the most prominent funding agents in the world for an international exchange of students and researchers.


This organization gives opportunity yearly to over 100,000 outstanding international students in developing countries to pursue postgraduate degree programmes in Germany making them the world’s largest funding organization.


Eligibility for DAAD Postgraduate Positions

[1] Studentships are available for a postgraduate program in Germany (Masters or PhD).


[2] Applicants must have two years professional working experience after graduation.


[3] Applicant’s intended research should be in the area of development-related postgraduate courses.


[4] Applications are for both German and International Students.


Application Process for 2020 DAAD Postgraduate Positions

[1] Application process commences with online submission of a request for either List of all DAAD Postgraduate Positions for 2020/21 0r List of all DAAD Postgraduate Positions for 2021/22.


[2] Applicants are required to submit with the application the following supporting documents:

  • A detailed CV
  • A detailed hand-signed letter of motivation.
  • Academic letter of recommendation hand-signed with the organization’s letterhead with the current date.
  • Confirmation of employment from your employer in your native country and guarantee of re-employment on the completion of the programme.
  • Proof of language abilities (TOEFL or IELTS). We accept ONLY Academic TOEFL.
  • German for courses taught in German – otherwise, English for courses taught in English if available.


DAAD Postgraduat Entitlement

[1] Stipend payments for health, accident, and personal liability insurance cover.


[2] Monthly payments of 850 euros for graduates and 1,200 euros for doctorate candidates.


[3] Travel allowance if it’s not funded by your native country or any other source of funding available to you.


Duration of Funding

The duration of funding is for 12 or 36 months depending on the programme of study.
